Establishing Balance in Your Life
The encouraging news is that by taking a look inside at your values, what matters to you, as well as what drains and fills you…you can make some changes that will bring more balance to your life. You are the only one who can make the changes you desire. One of the major keys to creating a balanced life is being selective—it’s about choosing. It’s not about getting more accomplished.  Instead, it’s about being more selective about what you do, as well as making sure you have time to replenish. Our choices determine how we live.

Tolerations: Getting Rid of Things That Drain You
We often want to hit the ground running after the New Year, and then run into a brick wall. Identifying what irritations and distractions you are tolerating will help you tackle areas that are draining you of vital energy and focus. Learning to either eliminate them or to work around them is necessary to actually move forward. You'll be shocked and pleased how much energy and motivation bubbles up naturally once you eliminate these tolerations from your life. It is good to remember that there are some tolerations for which there are no solutions. In those situations, we are called to re-examine and choose another attitude. This workshop is designed to help you identify the Tolerations that are distracting and draining you and give you the tools to be successful.

Setting Boundaries with Yourself and Others
This workshop is designed to help you understand and identify your boundaries. Special attention will be given to noticing where you allow your boundaries to be broken by others as well as yourself. You will come up with a concrete plan to gently set boundaries in ways that enhance your relationships with yourself and others.

Parenting Classes:
Kim speaks frequently in the community on a variety of parenting issues. Some of the topics are listed below. Please contact Kim if you are interested in having her speak for your church, group, or organization.

"Building Emotional Closeness With Your Children"
Often the missing ingredient in the relationship with our children is emotional closeness. Most of us were never taught how to develop this type of connection, but it's not too late to learn! This type of closeness is essential for building a solid relationship that will last a lifetime. This connection is like the foundation of a home that will allow your children to more easily adopt your moral values, successfully get through the teen years, and accept the discipline you dole out.

"Talking So Your Kids and Teens Will Listen" Sometimes without knowing it we sabotage our well-intentioned attempts to communicate with our children. This class shares practical skills and helps to build strong relationships with our children that will last a lifetime, and help them to listen to us.

“Using Logical Consequences to Build Responsibility and Decision Making Skills” Parents have two choices when it comes to helping a child become responsible. They can tell their child or teen to be responsible, or they can provide opportunities for that child or teen to learn to be responsible. Come and join us as we learn together how to help children grow from the mistakes they will inevitably make. Learning from these mistakes also helps them develop good decision-making skills.

“Family Skill Building: Practical Tips Regarding Chores, Homework, Allowance, and Family Meetings” Come and learn some practical guidelines to help with chores, homework, allowance, and family meetings. Establishing structure around these everyday parts of life can help bring order, lower everyday stress, and build personal responsibility. Videos will be shown demonstrating these skills.

“Teaching Your Children Morals & Values” As parents we all hope to pass onto our children and teens the gift of a strong moral character. As we know, this doesn't just happen, but the good news is that as parents there is a lot we can do. This seminar will focus on the internal growth process that is needed to help children resist powerful negative societal and peer influences. Helpful resources (books and tapes) will be shared to help you implement what we learn at home.

Raising an Emotionally Intelligent Child" Recent research has shown that even more than I.Q., a child's emotional awareness and ability to handle feelings will determine his/her success in all walks of life. Come and learn how to soothe and guide your child's feelings in order to help him/her learn how to control impulses, delay gratification, and cope with life's ups and downs.

“Helping Kids with Shyness, Bullies, & Making Friends” Come and join us as we focus on understanding these challenging social situations children and teens face. We will learn practical skills to help your children grow and develop. As parents, it is so hard to know what situations our children should handle on their own, and when we should step in. Join us as we tackle these challenging situations together. This class will take a very practical approach with lots of handouts and great ideas!!!

“Helping Kids with Anger & Fears” Come and learn how to understand children's fears and ability to handle anger according to their age. We will focus on understanding their internal world, as well as learning to teach them skills to help them manage these powerful emotions.

“Skills for Helping Kids Work Through Tough Situations & Feelings" As we know, tough situations happen in our kids' lives...from loss of a pet, trouble in school, end of a parents' marriage, to tragedies such as 9/11. Knowing how to help our kids process their feelings is essential to help them recover from life's losses. Come and join us as we learn together how to listen and communicate with our children when tough situations and feelings arise.

“Adolescent Brain Development” This is a three-part series about your teen’s brain development. Find out how the massive developmental changes taking place affect your teen’s ability to think, handle emotions, and handle life.
Part 1 - Why does my teen do so many wacky things? Part of the answer to this age-old question involves understanding the monumental changes that are occurring inside your teenager’s brain. This seminar will explain a lot!
Part 2 - How can I help my teenager mature in his/her ability to think clearly and regulate emotions? Tonight will give you some practical tools to understand and work with the brain changes happening in your teen.
Part 3 - How Can I Survive My Child’s Adolescence? Learn some tools you can use to handle the stress, confusion and challenges of parenting teens. Special attention will be given to help you keep your feet on the ground during these tumultuous years.

“What’s Going On Inside My Teenager?” Teens can be mysterious, frustrating, and delightful all at one time! Come and get a glimpse into what is really going on inside that teen of yours. Kim will take a practical look at teens’ needs, how to better understand them, and ways to make that relationship easier and closer.

“Helping My Teen Through the Grief Process” When teenagers go through a major loss, they often do not know what to do with their confusing and overwhelming thoughts and emotions. Come and learn how to handle your teenagers feelings of grief in a way that supports and helps your teen. Sometimes without knowing it we can minimize or dismiss the impact of the loss you teen has been through. Teens grieve for different lengths of time and express a wide spectrum of emotions. Some may sob, clam up, be angry, act like nothing happened, be anxious, and everything in-between. When a teen undergoes a significant loss, he/she is grieving whether you can see it or not. This class will help you understand and support your teen through a variety of losses.
